“Alexa, play ‘The Final Countdown’ by Europe.” And with that, the countdown to the Abraham Kriel Liggiefees 2024 has officially started. In just 28 short days, the Potchefstroom community and visitors alike will be treated to a spectacle of lights, music, artists, food stalls, and the famous Christmas Market on the ground of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home.
On 29 November Abraham Kriel will be opening its gates to the public as the first evening of this month-long event kicks off. The festival is a hit year after year, and this year promises to be more impressive than the previous, with more motives, a longer tunnel, and new food vendors. The classics, like the curry and rice food stall, will still be available, but new, exciting vendors will be making their way to the festival this year - exciting stuff!
Artists to expect
This year’s artists will be big names in the music industry. Visitors can look forward to Rooksein, Fatman, Chris Steyn, Dirk van der Westhuizen, Droomsindroom, Barto, Liezel Pieters, Brendan Peyper, and Eloff. These big names promise to make every evening and performance one to remember, all whilst the proceeds go towards a worthy cause. To purchase tickets for these artists (or for the festival itself) beforehand, head on over to Quicket and follow the easy prompts.
2023 - A Recap
Last year’s festival boasted impressive, new motives, and some great artists, such as Bernice West, Dodo Nyoka, and Appel. Before the official start of the festival, the Gala Evening kicked things off on the 27th of November. During this evening, invited guests were treated to the sounds of Ginger Snaps Band and lead singer, GP van Rheede van Oudtshoorn doubled as the evening’s master of ceremonies, and kept the crowd entertained. It was also during this evening that the Children’s Home bid farewell to Ketrien Saayman who has been involved at Abraham Kriel Children’s Home for the past 42 years. As if that wasn’t an emotional goodbye, some of the residents also partook in the evening’s ceremony, which brought quite a few tears to staff and guests alike.
