Amanda Greyling, Chantelle Erasmus, Taylen Brits and Elmarie de Beer are four dynamic women with a passion for aesthetic beauty and everything that goes along with it. With more than 30 years experience between the four of them, these ladies have big dreams and know exactly what to do to achieve those goals. We sat down and talked with them over a cup of coffee at their stunning salon in Gobey Street, Potchefstroom.
Background
Being Potchefstroom residents, all ladies completed their respective beauty degrees and diplomas and situated themselves in their hometown. Amanda and Elmarie have been in the industry for 25 years and Chantelle has 15 years of experience within this industry. Taylen is the ‘youngster’ of the group with 12 years of experience - so all in all, these ladies are very competent and qualified. “None of us are too qualified to learn something new, and we learn something new every day, which we then apply to the best of our abilities”, Taylen said. This is why they stay up to date with the latest trends, do refresher courses and attend workshops to upskill themselves, and provide clients with products and services that they won’t necessarily receive at other salons.
Unique Selling Point
What sets them apart is the fact that they offer additional services no other beauty salon in Potchefstroom offers and they combine the products they sell with their various treatments - from their deep cleanse facials to the anti-aging treatments. They also specialise in lymph drainage, spray tanning, slimming, permanent make-up, microblading and problem skin. Although they offer these specialised treatments, they have competitive prices and these prices are right up there with the rest of the local beauty salons. Decent laser machines have been imported and they offer radio frequency, micro needling and nano needling. The laser machine is also used to assist in [face]lifting, treat scarring and for rejuvenation treatments.
Challenges
Being a beauty salon in Potchefstroom is already a challenge on its own, so to reach the top of the ladder and stay competitive within the market adds another level of difficulty. Perfection Beauty Salon would like to broaden their horizons and they need some new clientele. The nail industry specifically is so saturated in this town and having a premises or physical salon comes with additional expenses compared to nail technicians who work from home. Although they have regular clients visiting the salon from Klerksdorp, Parys, Carletonville, Ventersdorp and Viljoenskroon, the main focus remains on ‘recruiting’ new locals. “We’re not scared of competition. Our work speaks for itself and we know what we are capable of.”
Customer experiences
They strive to deliver the best customer service and they know each customer personally; this stems from a relationship built over the years. Not only do they offer their professional services, they also provide clients with a personal ear or shoulder to cry on. These ladies are not only beauticians, they also fulfil the roles of therapists, big sisters and mothers to some of their clientele.
Future plans
“The future is bright!” Taylen exclaimed and her colleagues all agreed. They have a vision of expanding and opening a spa in the near future where they will also offer additional treatments. They know that this dream is a big one to chase, but they are goal-driven and don’t shy away from a challenge easily. “It’s what we make of it.”
“From us to you”
When asked if they have advice for anyone looking to pursue a career within this industry, Amanda mentioned that one has to be goal oriented, very professional and you should love what you do. It’s a very personal, ‘in-your-face’ service that you offer, so you have to be a people person and physical touch should definitely be one of your love languages. “This is a career you choose because you have a passion for it”, Amanda said. Elmarie also mentioned that a lot of people just need an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on; they don’t necessarily want advice, they just want a soundboard. Chantelle considers herself “very OCD” when it comes to treatments, especially with eyebrows and skincare. A career like this would definitely require some attention to detail - from the lightest hair sticking out to the smallest speck on a nail.
All about the results
Although the ladies don’t specifically have a ‘favourite’ - they can (and do) it all. Some of them prefer one treatment to another, but you will never hear them complain about having to do the ‘lesser preferred’ treatment. They are professionals and specialists in every area of service the salon provides. “Overall, we are all about results. We have returning clients because they see results.” And that is definitely what you’re looking for when searching for a beauty salon.
Purchasing products at the premises
All four ladies are very clued up with regard to the products and its ingredients they stock and sell. Based on their knowledge, they are then able to suggest a certain product to a specific client. They stock the following products at the salon:
Studio Makeup
MD Lash Factor
M°5 Lashes
They are big fans of the Environ range seeing as these products are made with the South African skin (and climate) in mind. The ladies also use the lash serum and Chantelle said that none of them wear false lashes, “it’s like magic in a bottle.”
With affordable prices, very professional services and beauticians who leave clients feeling like a million dollars after treatments, the salon is aptly named Perfection Beauty Salon.
