The iconic Ford Mustang is about to make its most exciting return yet with the launch of the seventh-generation model in South Africa. With its fighter jet-inspired digital cockpit, advanced 5.0-litre V8 engine, and a design that merges timeless Mustang aesthetics with modern flair, this is the most visceral Mustang experience yet.
For over 60 years, the Mustang has captured the imaginations of drivers around the world. This latest version continues that legacy, embodying the spirit of American muscle with a fresh, edgier twist.
A New Chapter in Mustang Legacy
“The new Mustang not only delivers upon the lofty expectations that our customers had for the vehicle, but surpasses them,” says Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa. “It adds another exciting chapter to this legendary nameplate, delivering the looks, sound, and appeal of the world’s best-selling sports coupe with even bolder styling, an advanced interior, enhanced performance, and an engaging driving experience.”
Initially launching in GT Fastback guise, the seventh-generation Mustang will feature the powerful 5.0L V8 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Later in the year, the first-ever Mustang Dark Horse, an exhilarating performance model tailored for both road and track, will be introduced to South African drivers.
Edgier Design with Timeless Mustang Cues
While staying true to its heritage, the seventh-generation Mustang GT sports modern, chiselled looks designed to appeal to a wider audience. The car’s front end features a low, horizontal brow, which emphasises its width, while the upper grille design draws inspiration from the original 1960s Mustang. Tri-Bar LED headlamps continue the Mustang’s signature lighting design, with a sleek roofline and sprinting stance reminiscent of the first generation.
The widened rear haunches add to the vehicle's muscular stance, while aggressive grille openings and new hood vents allow increased airflow, enhancing performance. The redesigned front splitter and race-inspired rear diffuser contribute to improved aerodynamic balance.
The car’s roofline has been optimised to allow drivers to enter and exit easily, even while wearing a helmet on the track. Signature tri-bar lighting is also found at the rear, maintaining Mustang’s hallmark design language.
The Mustang will be available in eight exterior colours, including Race Red, Oxford White, Absolute Black, Atlas Blue, Lucid Red, Vapor Blue, Iconic Silver, and Dark Matter Grey Metallic. Customers can also personalise their Mustangs with Brembo brake caliper colour options in Grabber Blue or Red, as well as choosing from 19-inch multi-spoke wheels in Ebony Black or the optional machined Tarnished Dark Aluminium finish.
Technologically Advanced, Driver-Centric Interior
Step inside, and the Mustang’s interior reveals its fighter jet-inspired cockpit, featuring two flowing, curved displays that are fully customisable. The 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster offers animated designs and drive-mode-specific visuals, while the 13.2-inch SYNC® 4 touchscreen flows seamlessly into the dashboard, creating an ultra-modern look.
Using the same Unreal Engine 3D technology found in modern video games, the Mustang allows drivers to personalise their driving experience. Drive modes and other settings are displayed as real-time graphical renderings on the center screen, and drivers can swipe to rotate and adjust the car’s configuration.
The standard Black Onyx leather seats incorporate heating and cooling functions for optimal comfort, while unique accent stitching and perforation patterns elevate the cabin’s refined feel. A premium B&O sound system with 12 speakers provides a powerful audio experience, perfect for those who love the sound of both music and the V8 engine.
Additional features include a wireless charging pad, new overhead USB ports for track cameras, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, fully integrated with SYNC® 4.
The Most Powerful Mustang GT to Date
Performance is at the heart of every Mustang, and the new GT takes this to another level. Powered by a 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine, the latest Mustang GT delivers 328 kW of power and 540 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful Mustang GT ever. The dual air intake box and dual throttle body design help to enhance airflow, maximising the engine’s output.
Drivers can tailor the Mustang’s behaviour to their needs with six selectable Drive Modes: Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, Track, and a customisable setting with up to six individual profiles. The car’s 10-speed automatic transmission adjusts its shift patterns based on the selected mode, delivering smooth shifts in everyday driving or quick responses on the track.
In South Africa, the Mustang GT will come equipped with the Performance Pack, featuring track-focused upgrades such as a front suspension tower brace, Torsen® limited-slip differential, MagneRide active suspension, larger Brembo brakes, and an active valve performance exhaust that allows the driver to adjust the exhaust sound from quiet to raucous.
A standout feature of the new Mustang is its electronic drift brake, engineered for both novice and expert drivers to practice and perfect rear-wheel-drive drifting. This segment-first feature takes Mustang’s performance capabilities to a new level.
Advanced Driver Assistance and Connectivity
Safety and convenience are prioritised in the new Mustang, which comes equipped with a range of advanced driver assistance features. Speed Sign Recognition, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering Assist, Evasive Steer Assist, and Reverse Brake Assist are all standard.
For enhanced connectivity, Mustang owners can utilise the FordPassTM app to remotely control their car. Features include remote start and stop, door locking and unlocking, vehicle health checks, and tracking fuel and oil levels. The app also provides access to service history and warranty information, ensuring the Mustang stays in peak condition.

The seventh-generation Ford Mustang represents a bold leap forward for this iconic nameplate, combining cutting-edge technology with timeless design and exhilarating performance. Whether on the road or the track, the new Mustang promises to deliver an unforgettable driving experience for South African enthusiasts.
