"A seed must die in order for the plant to grow."
Blossoms of Grace began as a personal healing journey, inspired by a life coach’s suggestion to give back. Initially, the project aimed to support just two girls, but it now reaches over 50 teenagers. With backing from sponsors as far as Zambia, Blossoms of Grace has seen remarkable growth in just a few months, relying on community support to create care boxes.
Grow in Grace
The name, “Blossoms of Grace,” symbolises growth from difficult places, much like a plant rising from soil. With the support of sponsors and the public, Blossoms of Grace continues to grow, aiming to uplift young girls in need. Since its launch a mere two months ago, it has boomed overnight, and donations have been a constant, which they are so thankful and grateful for. In collaboration with Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Potchefstroom, this initiative aims to change the lives of these teenage residents, one box at a time.
What’s in the Box?
The care boxes focus on essential items like deodorant, bath products, soap, and a few treats (like a small pack of candy). For the upcoming holiday season, special items like earrings or pendants will also be included.
Empowering young girls
Feedback, especially from girls in foster care, reveals how much these small acts of kindness mean. It helps them feel valued and connected to the community, and they are deeply appreciative of even the smallest items. This is how this non-profit organisation sees the impact of what they’re doing.
Challenges in Sustainability
As with every NPO, challenges and obstacles are inevitable. Ensuring longevity is one of the primary goals of Blossoms of Grace; they want to avoid becoming a one-time effort. The aim is to support at least 20 girls every month. This will require assistance from the public, in whichever way possible. Although they prefer donations instead of financial support, any form of donation is welcome - and that’s where Meisies & Menere comes in. Funds can be paid into their account, and they will go out and purchase the needed products before placing these items into boxes provided by them.
Future Goals for Blossoms of Grace
To reach more girls will be the ultimate goal - 100 to be exact! However, the current goal is to support as many girls as possible each month, with the understanding that it doesn’t require the most expensive items; each box costs about R200, which is not a lot in today's economy.
Ways the Community Can Contribute
As mentioned earlier, physical contributions are preferred, and convenient drop-off points for these items are also available. Donations can be collected by the team or dropped off at Spicy Affair Catering at 55 Rivier Straat. Community members can also reach out via Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp (060 723 4706).
Help bring a smile this Christmas Season
With the holidays approaching, Blossoms of Grace wants to make the December boxes extra special. If you are willing and able, please consider donating a few special items such as earrings, small handbags, or even a few necklaces. These 'gifts' will be added to the girls' boxes for Christmas.
Words of Encouragement
“The situation you’re in now isn’t where you’ll always be. There are people who care and are here to support you. Being a girl is a strength, never a limitation.”
As a community, we look forward to seeing this initiative grow and flourish.
