The annual Pumpkin Festival at Diggers-Inn once again delivered a spectacular day of family fun, friendly competition, and jaw-dropping agricultural feats. With pumpkins tipping the scales at record-breaking weights, the festival proved to be a thrilling highlight for locals and visitors alike.

Petrus Mare Crowned Pumpkin King with a Colossal 169kg Pumpkin
The festival’s most anticipated event, the pumpkin weighing competition, saw some of the biggest entries in the festival’s history. Petrus Mare emerged victorious, claiming first prize with a pumpkin that weighed in at an astonishing 169 kg – nearly the weight of an adult male. Spectators watched in awe as the massive gourd was lifted onto the scale, solidifying his place as this year’s Pumpkin King.
Not to be outdone, Janri Mare, Petrus’ sister, secured second place with an impressive 136.5 kg pumpkin. The siblings' success left many festivalgoers speculating about their secret to growing such gigantic produce.

Boeresport Brings Out the Competitive Spirit
Beyond the pumpkin spectacle, the festival also had boeresport, offering entertainment for young and old. Participants tested their strength and endurance in a series of lighthearted yet fiercely contested events.
Among the standout competitors was Vaughn Venton, whose strength and determination earned him the title of festival strongman. Another impressive performance came from a female contender, who took top honors in a power-based event – her name was not captured, but her skill and tenacity did not go unnoticed.

Community Spirit and Gratitude
The festival’s success was a testament to the dedication of its organizers and volunteers. Special recognition was given to Mariette, Lana, Ina, Johan, and Jennifer, whose hard work behind the scenes ensured a seamless and enjoyable event.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support from our community,” said one of the organizers. “Every year, this festival grows bigger, and it’s thanks to the people who show up, compete, and celebrate together.”
With another successful Pumpkin Festival in the books, anticipation is already building for next year’s event. Will the 169kg record be broken? Only time – and a whole lot of watering – will tell.

Stay tuned for next year’s Pumpkin Festival, where the pumpkins will be bigger, the competition fiercer, and the fun endless! 🎃✨
