A peaceful protest march against gender-based violence (GBV) took place in Potchefstroom on 2 April 2025. Sparked by the alleged rape of a 7-year-old girl at her school, the community came together in solidarity to demand justice, support survivors, and raise awareness.
The march began at Cachet Park at 09:00 and moved through Hoffman and Meyer Streets, passing the North-West University, before concluding at the Department of Education building on Loop Street.
Local law enforcement ensured that the demonstration remained orderly. The event sent a powerful message: Potchefstroom stands united against GBV and calls for meaningful change.

The FNB NWU Eagles ended their 2025 Varsity Cup campaign with a bang, absolutely crushing the FNB CUT Ixias at home in Potch. It was a performance for the books — one that left the crowd buzzing but also a little bittersweet.

The full-time score? A whopping 117–19. That’s not a typo — the Eagles racked up the biggest total and winning margin of the entire season. From the first whistle, NWU looked hungry, organised, and in full control.

In a heartfelt response to deteriorating conditions at the Immergroen and Harmonie retirement village, local businesses and residents have stepped in with practical aid. Many elderly residents live solely on SASSA grants and face challenging living conditions without municipal support.
🛠️ The Go-To Guy donated two 150L geysers to help restore access to hot water.
🔥 Build It Potchefstroom provided two fire extinguishers, as there were none on-site.

JB Marks Local Municipality is inviting public feedback on its Draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget for 2025/2026. This 30-day consultation period allows residents to engage with municipal plans for the upcoming financial year.
Tabled during a Special Council Meeting on 31 March 2025, the draft documents are available for review in compliance with national legislation promoting transparency and accountability.
