Easy to Reach, Hard to Let Go
Oord Nebo comes from an Afrikaans origin, hence the name “Oord” meaning Resort, situated within the farmland of Viljoenskroon on the banks of the Vaal River.
About 34km out from Potchefstroom in the Northwest Province heading towards Skandinawiedrift bridge you will find this well laid out resort a few kilometers down the gravel road on the right-hand side just before you would cross the bridge.
Great fun for Family
The resort is well equipped to house large groups of people with enough accommodation ranging from campsites to chalets overlooking the mighty Vaal River.
The playing grounds are large enough for kids to have all the fun they want including a jungle gym playpark and pool tables, with a big swimming pool to cool down on the hot summer days. Entertainment is what happens at Oord Nebo, especially with a wedding venue that houses up to 300 guests.
Fly Fishing Heaven
Oord Nebo is one of the best places to cast out a line and target the many fish that occurs there, fly fishing heaven is what we used to call it.
With perfect flow of water, vast area coverage and depths ranging from shallow to waste depth makes this the place a fish would find reason to make an aquatic living. There is a lot of islands throughout the river where you can take a breather and approach the water from different angles.
Time Just Dissapears
Here you can easily spend the entire day without realizing the time has gone, seeing the sun set with your rod in your hand making your way through the flowing water back to the resort. Never did the fishing disappoint when fly fishing at Oord Nebo. The Vaal River roars past leaving breathtaking views and making "fly fishermen" envious of its great yellow fish that roams the rippling water.
The Biodiversity
Driving through farmlands all the way to Oord Nebo almost makes you feel that there is no river running close by, without knowing you won’t know, especially the Vaal River being the size it is.
As you arrive at the gate of Oord Nebo you see the change in biodiversity with trees, birdlife, and the greenery. This is one place of high ecological importance, the river itself at this specific place is one of the densest spawning grounds for the fish that occurs within the river, especially because of the islands, the depth changes and the prime shallow pebble streams carving through the islands.
Mentioning this it also means that birds, reptiles, and mammals have the perfect hotspot to breed and live, as conditions, area, environment, and food is available here.
Beautifull Fauna and Flora
The system plays host to beautiful Fauna and Flora unique in their own way, birds are plentiful and abundant and if you’re lucky you might even see the Fish Eagles, Goliath Heron, Giant Kingfisher and many more special ones.
Bigger creatures also make a living here like the African Clawless Otter making use of the river’s freshwater mussels and freshwater crabs as food source, and then the Water Monitor Lizard, Africa’s biggest lizard, making use of al the breeding birds eggs along the banks of the river.
