In response to ongoing safety concerns and current severe weather conditions, the JB Marks Local Municipality Disaster Management Centre has relocated to the Potchefstroom Fire Station, located at 1 Luitingh Street, Potchindustria, Potchefstroom.

The move, effective from 27 March 2025, follows recommendations by the Department of Employment and Labour in cooperation with the Municipality's Occupational Health and Safety Section to temporarily close certain municipal offices. The relocation has presented challenges, particularly delays in transferring emergency telephone lines.
To ensure continuous service during this period, the Municipality has issued temporary contact numbers:
Disaster-related emergencies (road accidents, fires, floods): 018 293 2680
Service delivery concerns (water, electricity, sewage leaks): 018 299 5347
These numbers will remain operational until permanent emergency lines are re-established at the new location.
Residents are encouraged to regularly check for updates via official municipal platforms:

Current Flood Alert and Weather Warning
Heavy rainfall has resulted in flooding, severely impacting local infrastructure. The N12 toward Potchefstroom at Stilfontein remains closed, with traffic diverted through Stilfontein town. Traffic authorities remain on-site managing the situation.

A Yellow Level 2 weather warning remains in effect, predicting continued rainfall, potential flooding, property and vehicle damage, and possible disruptions to electricity supply in areas including the eastern regions of North West Province, Gauteng, Mpumalanga Highveld, and northeastern KwaZulu-Natal.

Municipal authorities have expressed appreciation for residents' cooperation and understanding during this challenging transition, emphasizing their commitment to resolving these issues swiftly.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant, avoid non-essential travel, and follow instructions from emergency personnel closely.
Stay safe and informed.
