Formation and Early Days
Die Heuwels Fantasties, translating to 'The Hills Fantastic' in English, is a prominent Afrikaans rock band originating from Bellville, South Africa. The band boasts a notable lineup, including Hunter Kennedy from Fokofpolisiekar and formerly of aKING, Pierre Greeff of Lukraaketaar, Fred den Hartog from Thieve, and Sheldon Yoko of Die Gevaar. As of 2022, they have enriched the music scene with eight studio albums and four EPs, all under their own label, Supra Familias.
Debut Album: A Stellar Beginning
The band made a striking entry into the music world with their self-titled debut album, released on March 19, 2009. The album's lead single "Vinger Alleen" dominated the number one spot for three weeks on MK, an Afrikaans music channel, and earned them a Best Video nomination at the MK Awards - an impressive feat considering they hadn't played a single concert by then.
"Wilder as die Wildtuin": The Second Chapter
In 2011, Die Heuwels Fantasties released their second studio album, "Wilder as die Wildtuin", marking a new phase in their journey. The album's release on March 11, 2011, was significant as it introduced their new drummer, Phillip Erasmus, adding a fresh dynamic to their sound.
Expanding Their Musical Landscape
The band continued to evolve and expand their musical reach with a series of albums post-2013. Their third studio album, "Alles Wat Mal Is", came out in 2013, followed by "Ja. Nee. Lekker" in 2014, "Okay!" in 2017, "2021" and "HERVERBEEL" in 2020, and "Volume II" in 2022. Each album showcased their growth and versatility, cementing their status as a formidable force in the Afrikaans rock genre.

Die Heuwels Fantasties' contributions to the music industry have not gone unnoticed. Their debut album's critical acclaim culminated in a South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Alternative Album in Afrikaans in 2010, a significant recognition of their talent and impact on the South African music scene.
