Mark Haze, a full-time musician and songwriter, is known for his unique blend of rock ’n roll, old-school soul, and blues. He’s not just a singer—he’s a powerhouse on stage, with a voice that gives you chills and guitar skills that leave you in awe.
From Goodwood to the Big Stage
Mark was born in Goodwood, Cape Town, where music was a constant presence in his life. By the age of two, he was already singing along to Bruce Springsteen and Queen in front of the Hi-Fi (in his nappies, no less). In school, he took piano lessons but soon begged his parents for a guitar. That guitar became his obsession, and the rest, as they say, is history.
He fell in love with the blues, inspired by legends like Eric Clapton and BB King. By the time he reached high school, he was digging through his dad’s LP collection and discovering classic rock from the ’60s and ’70s. That music became his refuge and sparked his passion for songwriting.
The Rise of 12th Avenue
In 2001, Mark formed his first serious band, 12th Avenue. The group released four albums and achieved two number-one hits on local radio stations. But like most bands, they faced their share of challenges: members left, money was stolen, and promises were broken. Despite the setbacks, Mark never gave up.
Idols and Big Breaks
In 2010, Mark won the American Idol Experience at Disney World. While he couldn’t capitalize on it due to financial constraints, the experience boosted his confidence. In 2011, he entered Idols South Africa, where he finished as the runner-up, catapulting his career forward. Shortly after, Universal Records signed him.
Sharing Stages with Legends
In 2013, Mark opened for Bon Jovi on their world tour—a rockstar moment if ever there was one. He’s also performed at major festivals like Rocking the Daisies and Ramfest and even graced international stages like B.B. King’s Nightclub in New York.
Hits That Stick
Mark has had numerous hits over the years. His single Lonely topped the Algoa FM chart, while Wake Up (Dreaming Of You) stayed on the Kia Take 40 SA chart for a record-breaking 23 weeks. His song Love Can Change The World was also a massive hit in Namibia.
Mark’s Music: A Blend of Influences
Mark’s music draws from rock icons like Queen and The Beatles, as well as modern artists like Bruno Mars and The Weeknd. He blends contemporary pop and electronic sounds with the timeless beauty of rock and blues. His performances are electric, emotional, and unforgettable—he treats every show like it’s his last.
A Life of Music
Mark Haze proves that hard work and passion can make dreams come true. Whether he’s performing on a massive stage with his band or in an intimate acoustic setting, he gives it his all. To his fans, he’s more than a musician—he’s an inspiration. With every note he plays, he reminds us that music isn’t just heard—it’s felt.
