Paxton Fielies, born on 17 September 2000 in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town, is a young woman with big dreams and an even bigger talent. She captured the hearts of the nation in 2017 when she was crowned the winner of the 13th season of Idols South Africa. As the youngest female to ever win the title, she instantly made history.
Her Journey to Fame
Paxton’s love for music began at the age of seven when she joined her church’s children’s choir. In 2013, she left the choir to focus on school, but her passion for music never wavered. She started sharing covers of popular songs on social media, and her rendition of Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down went viral.
In 2017, her mother convinced her to audition for Idols. Paxton was the first contestant in Cape Town to receive a Golden Ticket after her stunning performance of Tori Kelly’s Confetti. With powerful renditions of songs like Over the Rainbow and Careless Whisper, she earned her spot in the finals. She debuted her original single, Demonstrate, during her final performance, which solidified her win.
Life After Idols: A Rising Career
Paxton wasted no time building her career after Idols. In December 2017, she performed at the Cape Town Festival of Lights, marking her debut as a live performer. In 2018, she collaborated with Craig Lucas on the duet Smother, which received critical acclaim and commercial success. Later that year, she released her debut album, This Is Me, featuring hits like Angifuni and Where Are You Now. She even performed at the White Nights of Saint Petersburg festival in Russia, a significant achievement for such a young artist.
Philanthropy and Awareness
Paxton has used her success to make a difference. She performed at the World Children’s Prize Foundation ceremony in Sweden and worked on campaigns advocating for equal rights for children. She also participated in the “Raise Your Voice, Not Your Phone” campaign against bullying and performed at benefit concerts to raise awareness about cancer and hunger among children.
Music and More
With her chart-topping hits, live performances, and philanthropic work, Paxton Fielies has proven that she is more than just an Idols winner. She is a voice of hope, a youth ambassador, and living proof that dreams can come true with hard work and dedication.
