Local school Ferdie's is known for its prowess in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities. The year 2023 has proved to be a remarkable year for the school's disc shooting team, and the entire community can't help but share the excitement.
A Season of Excellence
The team's outstanding achievements have captured the local community's imagination and enthusiasm. Three of Ferdie's sharpshooters, who have been involved in the sport for the past five years, have once again performed incredibly well this year. They have also been selected to the North West team, which will participate in the South African National School Shooters Union's SA Championships, to be held in Johannesburg in October.
Farewell to Senior Players
During the past weekend's North West Disc Shooting Trials, the school bid farewell to Marno Colyn and Richter Jansen van Vuuren, both of whom are matriculating this year.
League Participation and Achievements
In the six league meetings held, the individual performances were outstanding.
Marno's League Achievements:
Participated in 5 leagues.
Secured 3 first places, a 2nd place, and a 3rd place.
Richter's League Achievements:
Participated in all 6 leagues.
Achieved a 2nd and 3rd place, and consistently ranked among the top 7 shooters.
Hanno's League Achievements:
Participated in all 6 leagues.
Achieved a 2nd and 3rd place, and consistently ranked among the top 7 shooters.
North West Trials - 4th and 5th August 2023
A shooter is preferably to participate in all six league competitions and the NG Open if they can. The best 3 scores are then used to issue trial invitations. The top 30 shooters in the trials are then selected to represent North West at the national competition.
Trial Results:
After the trials, the year's best shooters were named, and North West's team was announced to go to the national championships.
Marno Colyn was named the best U21 shooter at the North West trials and also achieved the highest overall score that day. Marno was also named the best U21 shooter of the year. Calculated on total points, Marno was North West's best shooter this year.
Hanno and Richter also achieved good scores and were placed 6th and 7th, respectively, and were included in the North West team.
