Hoër Tegniese Skool Potchefstroom, a distinguished combined public school, has been a cornerstone of technical education in the region for over a century. The school’s roots date back to 1903 when it began as an orphanage housed in a small NG Kerk at Vyfhoek. Over time, the institution grew, merging orphanages and evolving into the Potchefstroom Industrial Schools in 1922. It officially became HTS Potchefstroom in 1943, expanding its technical curriculum to include subjects like shoemaking, tanning, wagon making, and cabinet making—skills that were vital for South Africa’s post-war development.
Today, HTS Potchefstroom is known for its comprehensive technical and academic education, producing skilled learners who excel not only in academics but also in a variety of extracurricular activities. The school continues to provide top-tier technical training, with boarding facilities that accommodate some of their students.
