The North West Province once again proved itself as a stellar host for cricket enthusiasts, welcoming athletes and fans to the much-anticipated SA Blind Cricket tournament held in Potchefstroom at the JB Marks Oval.
This exceptional event, featuring the best of regional teams from across South Africa, began with a vibrant opening ceremony on Friday, April 26. The Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation, alongside MEC Mosenogi and senior members of ACSR, extended a warm welcome to all participants in a gathering that set a spirited tone for the competition.
A Tournament of High Stakes and Higher Spirits
Kicking off on April 27, the tournament showcased intense competition among eight regional teams. Over four days, these teams battled it out in the Round Robin stages at various venues across Potchefstroom, all vying for a coveted spot in the top four to advance to the knockout stages.
By Monday, April 29, the atmosphere was electric with teams pushing their limits for a chance at the semi-finals.
The Knockout Rounds: A Test of Skill and Nerve
As the competition heated up, Tuesday morning witnessed two gripping semi-finals. KwaZulu-Natal’s Hollywood Bets Dolphins squared off against Western Cape's Boland in a thrilling match, while a local derby saw Gauteng's Northern Titans take on Joburg's PP Works Lions. These matches not only highlighted the athletes' incredible skills but also the passion and teamwork inherent to blind cricket.
A Grand Finale to Remember
The final, held on April 30, was nothing short of spectacular. The Hollywood Bets Dolphins emerged victorious against the Northern Titans in an eight-wicket win that had fans on the edge of their seats.
While the NW Dragons, the home team, missed out on the knockouts, finishing fifth, their spirit remained unbroken, and their determination to excel in future tournaments was palpable during the closing ceremony.
