NWU is celebrating a proud moment as Liezel Gouws, an NWU student, has won Team SA’s first medal at the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championships. Liezel earned a bronze in the Women’s 400m T37 on Friday, marking a significant achievement in her athletic career.
A Remarkable Journey
Liezel made her international debut in 2013 and has since established herself as a formidable athlete. She previously broke world records in the 800m T37 in 2015 and 2018, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination.
The Championships in Kobe
The 2024 Para Athletics World Championships kicked off on the 17th of May in Kobe, Japan, and will run until the 25th. Athletes from around the world have gathered to compete at the highest level, and Liezel’s bronze medal is a testament to her hard work and dedication.
