Saints u/19 Girls' Cricket Team Dominate Gimmies with 79-Run Victory
🏏🏏 🏏🏏 🏏🏏 🏏🏏 🏏🏏
The Saints u/19 girls' cricket team made a strong statement yesterday, 9 September, with an impressive 79-run victory over Potchefstroom Gimnasium on their home ground. Led by captain Tshegofatso Monyela, Saints set an imposing target of 171/3 in their 20 overs, a total that proved too much for Gimmies to chase down.⚾
Tshego Monyela Leads from the Front
Saints' captain, Tshegofatso Monyela, played a captain’s innings with an unbeaten 74 off 58 balls, her second consecutive half-century after scoring 50 against Ikageng Hub just last week. Her commanding performance with the bat set the tone for the Saints, giving her team a comfortable platform to defend.
Gimmies Struggle in the Chase
Potchefstroom Gimnasium could only muster 92/6 in their 20 overs, as Saints' bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the chase. The early wickets of Gimmies’ key players, Deidre Janse van Rensburg and Tlotlo Bogatsu, put them on the back foot, with both falling to the off-spin of Reabetswe Dithipe.🏏
Spin Magic from Reabetswe and Leanny
Reabetswe Dithipe had a match to remember, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 16 runs, while also contributing a composed 48 off 38 balls with the bat. Her all-round performance was key to Saints' dominance.✨Leanny Makusha also stood out with the ball, taking an outstanding 3 wickets for just 4 runs, as spin bowling proved to be the winning formula for Saints in the middle overs.
Firmly at the Top of the Table
This commanding victory solidifies Saints' position at the top of the table, with two round-robin games remaining. They’ll be looking to maintain their momentum as they face Lichtenburg in an away game today.Saints are on a roll, and if this form continues, they’re going to be tough to stop.
