If you’ve ever wanted to explore the spookier side of Parys without turning it into a Netflix docuseries, here’s your chance. The Mystery Ghost Tour is rolling (well, convoying) into town on 12 April 2025, and it's bringing a mix of haunted history, light-hearted frights and a dash of the paranormal – all from the comfort of your own car.
Forget the Party Bus – This is a Jaunt
Back in 2019, the Mystery Ghost crew decided to ditch the party bus vibe after a few overexcited guests treated it like a night out in Fourways. These days, they run what's called a “Jaunt”: a car convoy format where guests use their own vehicles, following a lead car from stop to spooky stop. It’s like a haunted treasure hunt, only you know exactly what you’re looking for.
You’ll need at least two people per car (someone’s got to read the ghost stories out loud while you drive). Expect to hop in and out of your vehicle at key spots, from creepy old houses to eerie bridges, with plenty of storytelling and a few goosebumps along the way.
Where to Be and What to Bring
The whole thing kicks off at 6pm at Stonehenge In Africa Resort and wraps up around 10pm. The organisers encourage you to grab a bite or a drink somewhere in town from 4:30pm before the eerie activities begin. Just don’t ghost the bar tab.
Tickets are R399 per person, and you can book online via Quicket.
As for what to pack:
Torch (ghosts hate being spotlighted)
Camera (or your phone, obviously)
Comfortable shoes (some walking involved)
Umbrella (ghosts don’t care about the rain, but you probably do)
Cash for pubs and grub (some stops may not take cards)
Picnic basket or cooler bag (snacks and soft drinks encouraged)
Kids under six are a no-go – this one's for adults and brave-hearted teens.
Stops on the Spook Circuit
This jaunt doesn’t mess around. The itinerary reads like a paranormal pub crawl mixed with a local history lesson:
Stonehenge intro (yes, there's one here – kind of)
Fochville’s Phantom Hitchhiker (stay in the car, she’s shy)
Poltergeist House, Old Maternity Home, and Voortrekker Pyramid
A drink at the Palm Court Hotel (don’t spill your spirits)
Ye Olde Museum and the Old Post Office featuring ‘Little Boy Lost’
Creepy vibes at the abandoned railway station
Chilling tales at Echo Hotel and Doctor’s Patient’s House
Ghost science (yes, really) on the Suspension Bridge with some dowsing rod action
The infamous Spook House of Parys
And finally, a visual scare at the Old Water Pump House Graveyard
