If your idea of a good time includes fresh air, a bit of light exercise, and a well-earned glass of wine, then grape picking at Pont de Val might be just the thing for you. Running on selected weekends in February, this hands-on event is perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking to escape the usual weekend routine.
When and Where
The event kicks off on Saturday, 8 February 2025, with additional dates on the 9th, 15th, 16th, 21st, and 22nd. The setting? Pont de Val in Parys, right along the scenic Vaal River Road. No need to book in advance—just show up, grab a pair of scissors, and get picking.
What to Expect
Upon arrival, participants will receive a bottle of water, a fruit bag or box, and access to picking tools. Adults can look forward to a well-deserved glass of wine at the end of their session.
Available grape varieties include:
Crimson Seedless – sweet, crisp, and perfect for snacking.
Hanepoot – a South African favourite, known for its rich flavour and juiciness.
The Cost
Adults: R115 (includes a glass of wine)
Kids: R65 (no wine, obviously)
No Booking? No Problem!
This is one of those rare events where you don’t need to stress about making a reservation—just arrive at Pont de Val Restaurant on the day. However, grapes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so keeping an eye on Pont de Val’s social media for updates might be a good idea.
And if you do go, don’t forget to snap a few photos and tag them on social media. It’s not every day you get to pick your own grapes and enjoy a glass of wine straight from the source. Cheers to a different kind of weekend adventure!
