Potchefstroom Gets Airborne
The Midwest Model Club is dusting off the runways and lining up the aircraft for their first fly-in of the year, set to take place on 24 May 2025 at their usual airfield just outside Potchefstroom. It kicks off at 8h00 sharp, so best bring your flask and sunscreen.
Bring a Plane, Pay a Fee. Watch for Free
Whether you’re a seasoned RC pilot or just someone who enjoys watching other people’s toys fly better than your car drives, this event has you covered. Pilots pay R100, but spectators can roll in for free – which is a pretty sweet deal if you’re just there for the vibes, the flight banter, or maybe the food.
Fly What You’ve Got
The club welcomes all model aircraft – from planes and helicopters to drones. If it flies and doesn’t scare the cows, chances are it’s welcome. This is also a good time to mention they’re rolling out a brand-new flight training programme, perfect for those wanting to stop crashing in style and start landing on purpose.
Not Just Hot Air
If the whirr of electric motors and scent of burnt nitro fuel isn’t quite enough to keep you going, a food cart will be available on site – ready to serve up something to keep your hands busy when your plane’s on the ground. Whether it's coffee, wors rolls or something else entirely, your stomach won’t leave disappointed.

Events like this might not make national headlines, but they do something better – they bring the community together, spark new hobbies, and give people a reason to be outside on a Saturday morning. Whether you’re flying, learning, spectating or just there for a boerie and a chat, the Midwest Model Club’s fly-in promises to keep it grounded, but fun.
