Dutch concert organist Minne Veldman is heading back to South Africa for his seventh tour, bringing his renowned skills to audiences in Pretoria, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Robertson, and Potchefstroom. Local music lovers will have the chance to experience his artistry on Wednesday, 19 February 2025, at NG Kerk Vyfhoek, Baillie Park, Potchefstroom. This recital is part of the NWU School of Music Concert Series 2025.
A Rare Afternoon Treat
Unlike most midweek concerts, which tend to be in the evening, this one kicks off at 3:00 PM. A bit of an unusual timeslot, but for those who can slip away in the afternoon, it's a golden opportunity to hear one of Europe’s finest organists without having to battle through peak-hour traffic afterwards.
A Diverse Programme
Veldman’s setlist for the afternoon includes a mix of classic and lesser-known works, featuring composers like Telemann, Nystrom, and German. He will also perform Bach’s First Trio Sonata, Handel’s ever-popular The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Mendelssohn’s Sixth Sonata (which includes the famous variations on Vater Unser), and Boëllmann’s dramatic Suite Gothique. In a special touch, he will also play his own composition based on Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven.
Veldman won’t be taking the stage alone—trumpeter Peet du Toit will join him for some of the programme, adding an extra layer of musical brilliance to the performance.
Ticket Information
Tickets are available via Quicket, priced at R130 for adults and R80 for pensioners and students.
Whether you're an organ connoisseur or just someone who appreciates a good live performance, this promises to be a rewarding musical experience. Veldman’s performances are known for their technical precision and expressive depth, making this an event worth marking on the calendar.
