The Ultimate Road Running Challenge is Back!
Get your takkies ready because the North West Province’s most anticipated ultra marathon is making a grand return on 3 May 2025! The North West N12 Ultra Marathon is back for its 4th edition, and this year, it’s promising bigger prize money, better logistics, and an even greater running experience.
Taking place along the famous N12 highway, the race will start in Klerksdorp and take runners on an exhilarating journey towards Potchefstroom. Whether you’re a seasoned ultra-marathoner or just looking for a lekker challenge, this is the race to be at.
Race Options & Entry Fees
Runners can choose from two main distances:
50km Ultra Marathon – R360 (includes a free T-shirt, nylon bag, and buffer)
10km Challenge – R250 (includes a free T-shirt, nylon bag, and buffer)
Temporary licences for both distances are available at R75.
Entries can be made online via Peak Timing.
Big Prize Money Up for Grabs
If you’re fast on your feet, this marathon could be quite lucrative! The prize purse is impressive, with the top ten finishers in the 50km race walking away with serious cash:
1st place: R50,000
2nd place:R30,000
3rd place: R20,000
4th – 10th place: R15,000 down to R1,000
For the 10km race, top runners won’t leave empty-handed either:
1st place: R10,000
2nd place: R7,000
3rd place: R5,000
4th – 5th place: R2,000 and R1,000 respectively
Cash prizes are also awarded in different age categories (40-49 yrs, 50-59 yrs, 60+ yrs), ensuring runners of all ages have something to push for!
Plus, there’s a special halfway mark bonus of R5,000 for the 50km race and R2,000 for the 10km race.

This event is not just for the locals – it has attracted elite runners from across Kenya, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Eswatini, and Botswana. The Comrades Marathon qualifier status of the 50km race also makes it a must-run for serious endurance athletes looking to secure a spot in South Africa’s most famous ultra.
