On October 17, 2023, the NWU School of Music & Conservatory will be hosting a mesmerizing musical event titled "The Complete Italienisches Liederbuch" at the NWU Conservatory Hall in Potchefstroom.
About the Composition
Hugo Wolf, renowned for his exceptional talent in creating art songs for soloist and piano, will have his crowning achievement presented on this grand evening. The collection comprises 46 art songs, beautifully depicting love in its myriad forms, from tender moments to passionate outbursts.
Stellar Performances Await
Thembinkosi Magagula (soprano), Dolf Mathee (baritone), and Jana Mathee (piano) will be the stars of the evening, bringing the male and female narratives of this love dialogue to life. Their combined prowess promises an unforgettable auditory journey.
Program Structure
Inspired by Wolf's profound respect for the dramatic form of opera, especially that of Wagner, the songs will be grouped into five dramatic dialogues, a unique concept envisioned by Prof. Gunther Pullvermacher.
