Flying Across the World
Today, I secured a flight ticket for a complex journey across three European nations, involving eight distinct flights. Despite being a seasoned traveler, a confession lies heavy on my heart: I harbor a profound unease towards flying. Each ascent into the azure beckons an existential introspection: "What if this is my final day?"
No Retreat from Here
From the roar of the engines during those paramount initial seconds, to the eventual steadying hum as we reach cruising altitude, I find myself attuned to every nuance of the aircraft. Paradoxically, the moment the cabin door latches shut, a wave of tranquility washes over me. This calm stems from two realizations: firstly, that from this juncture there's no retreating, and secondly—and most importantly—that I am now unequivocally in God's embrace. Although in truth, aren't we always?
Masters of Our Destiny
This airborne reflection magnifies a larger spiritual truth. While we may feel masters of our destiny, orchestrating our lives' every movement, it's God who charts our course. Much like my reconciled trust post door closure, we must recognize that while we play our part, God's sovereignty prevails. Entrusting our journey—whether airborne or terrestrial—to Him is an affirmation of faith.
Bond with God
Beyond this, the vulnerability I confront when flying amplifies the preciousness of my bond with God, my kin, and all souls I cross paths with. It serves as a poignant reminder of the impermanence of life and the essence of living: to cherish, to show gratitude, and to embrace our shared humanity.
In God, our trust should steadfastly reside, even if the hustle of life occasionally clouds this eternal truth.
