The FNB NWU Eagles ended their 2025 Varsity Cup campaign with a bang, absolutely crushing the FNB CUT Ixias at home in Potch. It was a performance for the books โ one that left the crowd buzzing but also a little bittersweet.
Biggest Win of the Season
The full-time score? A whopping 117-19. Thatโs not a typo โ the Eagles racked up the biggest total and winning marginย of the entire season. From the first whistle, NWU looked hungry, organised, and in full control.
At half-time, the scoreboard already read 52-12ย in favour of NWU, and it only got worse for the visitors from there. The defending 2023 champs showed no mercy as they ran in try after try in front of a roaring home crowd.
Dominant, But Not Enough
Despite the emphatic win, NWU's dream of back-to-back titles has come to an end โ for now. The Eagles finished the Varsity Cup season in 5th place, narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot. The log points just didnโt stack up in their favour this time around.
Still, this performance reminded everyone why they were champions last year. The Eagles delivered a rugby masterclass, showcasing power, precision and plenty of Potch pride.
Looking Ahead
Itโs a tough pill to swallow not making the playoffs, especially after such a commanding display. But one thingโs clear โ the NWU Eagles have what it takes to bounce back. With a strong core of players and a passionate support base, theyโll be back, and theyโll be hungry. For now, the Eagles can hold their heads high. They ended the season with their wings spread wide and a statement made: NWU rugby is still a force to be reckoned with.ย ๐
