Ian Slinger’s Marathon Debut at the Soweto Marathon
On November 2, Ian Slinger made an impressive marathon debut at the 2024 Soweto Marathon, tackling the high altitude and tough hills of Johannesburg with a time of 2:20:52. His effort earned him 8th place overall and 5th among South African runners, an incredible achievement for his first attempt at the marathon distance.
Slinger’s strong performance was not achieved in isolation. Fellow club member Elroy Gelant showed tremendous sportsmanship, pacing Slinger through the first 32 kilometers. Elroy Gelant Completes His Title Collection with Victory at Thembisa Mile 10km
Elroy Gelant, also representing Potch Track Club, added another accolade to his already impressive resume by clinching victory at the Thembisa Mile 10km race with a strong finish of 29:35. This achievement filled one of the few gaps in Gelant’s career titles, showcasing his consistency and dominance on the road.
Luan Munnik’s Record-Breaking Streak: A Testament to Talent and Determination
Luan Munnik has shown exceptional skill and endurance over recent weeks, leaving his mark across multiple events. His impressive streak began at the LetsGoPotch Marathon on October 26, where he set a personal best and new course record in the 10km, clocking an incredible time of 29:32.
Unfazed by the achievement, Munnik took on the Thembisa Mile on 28 October , where he claimed victory with a time of 4:03.
Just prior, Munnik also excelled at the Parys Crater Street Mile, winning with a blistering 4:01—the second-fastest time by a South African over this distance this year. He followed up this victory by competing in the Boxer 5km road race in Durban the next day, where he finished in 13:45, securing 4th place and achieving one of the fastest 5km times by a South African this year.
