Ronaldo de Lima, a 20-year-old rugby talent from Potchefstroom, has been making waves in the South African rugby scene. His dedication and passion for the sport have earned him a coveted spot in the Toyota Cheetah Academy High-Performance Program—an opportunity reserved for only the most promising young players. This program is designed to develop future rugby stars, and Ronaldo's inclusion is a testament to his hard work, talent, and potential.
A Rugby Career Built on Passion
Ronaldo’s love for rugby started at a young age. From his early years in primary school, he showed exceptional skill and enthusiasm for the game. He represented the Leopards team during his primary school years, and as he moved on to high school, he continued to shine. Ronaldo excelled in both sevens and fifteen-a-side rugby, playing for the Potchefstroom Volkskool First Team for two consecutive years.
His standout performances, particularly his exceptional kicking ability as a fullback—kicking the ball a remarkable 60 meters over the goalpost—set him apart from others on the field. His journey continued as he represented the Potchefstroom Club First Team in both sevens and fifteen-a-side rugby in 2024, and he is currently a proud member of the Leopards Countryside team.
The Toyota Cheetah Academy High-Performance Program
Ronaldo’s hard work has now earned him a place in the Toyota Cheetah Academy, a program known for nurturing and developing some of the finest rugby talents in South Africa. The Academy’s comprehensive high-performance program includes:

An 8-week conditioning program focused on enhancing practical performance
This rigorous and well-rounded training program offers Ronaldo the opportunity to refine his skills, grow as a player, and get closer to achieving his dream of playing for the Springboks.
Academic and Career Development
In addition to his rugby training, Ronaldo will also be pursuing a Fitness Instructor NQF 4 qualification through eta (Exercise Teachers Academy). This qualification includes courses in anatomy, physiology, exercise screening, fitness facility supervision, and more. It not only supports his rugby career but also provides him with the skills and credentials for a future career in fitness and sports.
