This week at The Go-To Guy Potchefstroom has been full of exciting developments and significant milestones. We’ve been working hard to expand our reach, enhance our services, and continue our commitment to the Potchefstroom community. Celebrating Milestones
35,000 Facebook Followers
We reached another major milestone this week with 35,000 followers on our Facebook page. To celebrate this achievement, we were treated to delicious pizzas from Roman's Pizza.
Expanding Our Live Streaming and Content Offerings
Stroom Stories
It was another busy week of live streaming. On Tuesday we sat down with the General Manager of The Feather Hill Boutique Hotel, Erik du Preez, to talk about this famous establishment in Potchefstroom. Mr Jackie van Vuuren and Mrs Estelle Naudé from Mooirivier Laerskool were Drikus’ guests on Skool Kompas. On Wednesday, Pieter sat down with Werner Broodryk from Threshing Floor Movement during an episode of Spiritual Talk, and Thursday’s guest on Rugby Raas was Ferdi Joubert, coach Potch Dorp's third team and manager at De Leeukuil. Thursday also saw a very special guest, when Anjanette had the privilege of talking with her grandmother, Annette Engelbrecht, who has resided in Potchefstroom for more than six decades - she’s seen it all!
Potch Social Initiative
We announced our Potch Social initiative, which will cover local social events. This new platform is designed to keep Potchefstromers informed about the latest happenings in their community. This initiative kicked off this past weekend where Drikus attended the Open Day of M.L. Fick Primary School. Keep an eye out for that video on our social media pages as well as our website.
Community Campaigns and Partnerships
Geesfees Campaign
We kicked off our Geesfees campaign as the official media partner for this upcoming music event at the end of August. We’re excited to bring all the latest updates and ensure everyone in Potchefstroom knows what to expect. The goal of this year's festival is to channel the profits directly into the local community by supporting initiatives and projects that improve the quality of life for the town's residents. In collaboration with the Potch Business Chamber, all funds raised will be used to spruce up the town, including fixing potholes, cutting grass, and replacing streetlights, to name a few. Pass the Ball Promotion
Our Pass the Ball promotion, in collaboration with Excelsior Leather, is in full swing. This fun campaign sees a leather rugby ball being passed from business to business every second day, creating a sense of unity and community spirit. The Go-To Guy’s “Pass the Ball”! This unique event celebrates our vibrant business community, showcasing the spirit of collaboration and friendly competition. The prize? Platform Enhancements and New Features
Business Registration and Advertising Packages
Our Property Registration Page has been updated. Tabs have been added to shorten the page and to make it easier to navigate and complete. Additionally, the View Property Page also received tabs, making it neater and more user-friendly. (Register Business Here)
Car Trader Platform Updates
This platform allows verified car dealers to upload their deals and specials on vehicles, and provides readers with a trusted source to find car deals in and around Potchefstroom. Our goal is to maintain a verified and trusted list of dealers to protect our community from scams. (View Car Trader Here)
Community Engagement and New Client Activations
Expanding to Parys
Calling all Parys businesses! Our activation program for businesses in Parys has been in the works for some time now, and we are thrilled to announce that businesses in Parys can now officially register on our page. We’re also planning to open a The Go-To Guy representative office in Parys to better serve our neighbouring town’s businesses and residents.
Our Community Cares
In the midst of the dry conditions currently in central South Africa, wildfires are an immediate threat to farms and communities alike. We rallied up the troops and were able to sponsor a few things that our First Responders needed, like Super C sweets, and lipbalm. A huge shoutout to Absolutely Perfect Water Potchefstroom who sponsored water for these unsung heroes.
Social Media Coverage and Community Stories
We began covering other local social media accounts, like "Nog ‘n Dag in Potch" and "ProudPotcher", to showcase the immense creativity that exists in Potchefstroom and to highlight to our community all the different things that our town has to offer. We also continued sharing stories on our Facebook profile, like that of Cindy the Baboon and MammaPlotter, whose zinc house project has touched many hearts.
Event Planning and Local Partnerships
Spring Day Event with Flotek
We had meetings to start planning a Spring Day event for Flotek, scheduled for September. This event will include a Potjie Kos competition and various fun activities for families. Be sure to diarise this date, as it promises to be a day filled with fun, prizes, different stalls, and delicious food.
Matric Farewell Promotion
We are thrilled to announce that Dineo Modungwa is the winner of the Matric Farewell Dream Competition! Dineo will receive a custom-made dress by Du Preez by Design, along with hair & makeup, gel toes & nails, and an eyebrow shape and tint treatment from Revivified Beauty. We can't wait to see her shine on her special day! We also want to thank Revivified Beauty Salon & Du Preez for their amazing contribution to making Dineo's day a dream come true!

Bult Oktoberfest and Rum and Gin Fest
We continued promoting the Bult Oktoberfest and Rum and Gin Fest, both happening on the 12th of October. These events are set to be major highlights in Potchefstroom’s social calendar, and we cannot wait for Spring followed by the most beautiful month of October.
Client Campaigns: Daily Ford and Flotek
We continued our Daily Ford client campaigns, showcasing their vehicles and special offers. These past two weeks the focus was on the Golf R, and the Ford Territory. Our Flotek campaign also continued, focusing on increasing traffic to their retail store and targeting specific segments such as contractors, farmers, and miners.

Property Listings and Job Board
Our property section and job board continue to grow, remaining popular resources for the Potchefstroom community, and we plan to announce a special partnership with Unlocked Properties in the next week or two, watch this space.
The Go-To Guy Mini Project
Another exciting project currently happening at The Go-To Guy is our Mini Project. This project aims to see a very red, very beautiful Mini transform into our 'official company car'.
Olympics Wrap
As the 2024 Olympics drew to a close on the 11th of August, South Africa can hold our heads high with the incredible performances by our athletes across all disciplines. A special congratulations goes out to Tatjana Smith who brought home a silver and gold medal for her swimming. Another memorable Olympic moment was when our 4x100 meter men’s team clenched the silver medal. Two local athletes, Elroy Gelant and Jo-Ané van Dyk, shone brilliantly during the Olympic Games in Paris. Elroy competed in the Marathon, crossing the finish line in eleventh place which is an incredible feat, and Jo-Ané obtained a silver medal in Javelin. All in all, it was a good Olympic Games for Team South Africa.
It’s been an incredibly busy week at The Go-To Guy Potchefstroom, filled with growth, new initiatives, and ongoing commitments to our community. We look forward to continuing this momentum and sharing more exciting updates in the weeks ahead!
