Prime Location
Schoemanshoff River Lodge is a gem waiting to be discovered, nestled along the banks of the Vaal River. Just after the transition from tar road to gravel on the Schoemansdrift low-water bridge route, this breathtaking riverside lodge beckons on the right. A family-run haven, they've preserved the pristine wilderness by the river, offering guests both serenity and a touch of adventure. As a guest, you'll enjoy private, fish-friendly waters suitable for both fly fishing and traditional “papgooi.”
Tierkloof Hiking Trail
Nature lovers will appreciate the well-marked Tierkloof hiking trail. Climbing through a gorgeous natural kloof leading to a tranquil lookout point. From here, you can truly grasp the beauty of the Vredefort Dome formations. The trail spans just under 3km, offering an easy to moderate hike up and down the same path. Dog lovers can bring their furry friends along, provided they're leashed. The trail will soon be extended to 6km, doubling the adventure.
Stay in Comfort
Schoemanshoff boasts a variety of accommodations tailored to various group sizes:
Kruisbessie: Sleeps 14
Kollegerus: Sleeps 2
Doppruim: Sleeps 8
Tokkelosbos: Sleeps 17
Each unit is generously spaced and fully equipped. Not to mention, every accommodation comes with expansive open-air boma and braai areas, encased in lush riverside bushveld for added privacy.
Nature’s Delight
Having been here, I can attest to the magic of Schoemanshoff. It stands out as a top destination by the Vaal river, marrying the allure of a livestock farm with breathtaking nature. The dense greenery along the riverbank, minimally altered, teems with an array of birds, fish, animals, and plants.
A Sustainable Difference
Modern industrial farming has dramatically altered traditional farming, often at nature's expense. Animals, once sustained purely by the land, now often rely on artificial supplements. This not only affects us as consumers but also the environment. At Schoemanshoff, they've chosen a different path. Their animals graze naturally, thriving on the land's organic resources. This commitment to natural farming means Schoemanshoff proudly offers some of the best, 100% grass-fed meat in the area. The livestock lives naturally for three years before becoming the delicious steak or wors available for purchase. For more insights into their sustainable vision, the welcoming owners are always keen to share their journey.
