In the heart of Potchefstroom, a transformation is underway at the free-roaming cat sanctuary. This sanctuary, once a humble refuge for the city’s abandoned cats, is currently experiencing an exciting second phase of renewal and expansion. Spearheaded by Vee’s unwavering dedication and vision, this project is not only enhancing the sanctuary’s facilities but also elevating it to a haven that offers solace and joy to both humans and cats alike.

Building a Better Tomorrow
The sanctuary, a brainchild of Vee, has grown under her loving care. With the full support and involvement of Darren Kruger, have been instrumental in facilitating this joint venture expansion, ensuring that the sanctuary has the resources it needs to thrive. Their commitment to the project has helped foster a supportive environment where these cats can flourish.
Johan, an employee of PAWS has been a helping hand in the physical expansion of the sanctuary. He has re-built existing shelters and has completed a state-of-the-art cat play gym under the watchful eye of Vee. This new area has created a dynamic space for play and relaxation that significantly enhances the quality of life for the sanctuary’s feline occupants.

A Flourishing Free-Roaming Haven
The sanctuary's latest enhancements have already made significant strides in improving the living conditions for the cats. The installation of artificial turf and paving has created a cleaner and more comfortable environment for the cats to explore. A new shelter has been constructed, offering a safe haven for the cats to rest and play.
The completed cat play gym will provide an exciting and engaging space for the cats to satisfy their curiosity. Additionally, old tyres were re-purposed into pots, into which small trees were planted. Further beautifying the area and creating a serene, natural atmosphere for both the sanctuary's feline residents and visitors.
Both Vee and Darren have played a pivotal role in securing the future of the sanctuary through their fundraising efforts. Thus far, they have personally financed the entire project to this point. However donations from the community are now needed to finance the completion of the project, including the vision of erecting a fence around the entire sanctuary with 2 gates. This new barrier will not only enhance security but also provide a safer and more defined space for the cats to roam freely. This dedication to improving the sanctuary's infrastructure demonstrates a deep commitment to creating a secure environment for these cherished feline residents

The Path Ahead
Despite the progress, there are still critical needs to be met to complete the sanctuary’s transformation. The sanctuary is in need of:
Two gates
Fencing
Outdoor garden furniture to create welcoming spaces for visitors
Astro-turf or artificial grass
Bricks or pavers
These upgrades will not only benefit the cats but also enhance the visitor experience, encouraging more adoptions and community engagement.
