Do you need Gas in Potchefstroom, and have you wondered about the different gas cylinders you get, we put together a small explainer for you below

Different Types of Gas Bottles

When it comes to gas bottles, there are a few different types that are common in South Africa. These include LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and LN2 (Liquid Nitrogen). Each type of gas has its own benefits and drawbacks, so it's important to choose the right one for your needs.

LPG is the most common type of gas used in South Africa. It's affordable and easy to find, making it a good choice for those on a budget. However, it can be dangerous if not used correctly. Make sure you read the safety instructions carefully before using LPG.

CNG is a less common type of gas, but it has a few advantages over LPG. It's cleaner burning, so it's better for the environment. It's also more efficient, so you'll get more use out of each tank. However, CNG can be more expensive than LPG.

LN2 is the least common type of gas used in South Africa. It's very cold and can be used to cool things down quickly. However, it can be dangerous if not used correctly and is also very expensive. Make sure you read the safety instructions carefully before using LN2.

What is the right gas bottle size for you?

Looking for the right gas bottle size for your home in South Africa? Here's a quick guide to help you choose the right one!

  • 5kg Gas Bottle: The 5kg gas bottle is the smallest option available (outside of the small camping cylinders), and it's perfect for households that only use gas for occasional cooking or heating. It's also a good choice for camping trips or other outdoor adventures you have a small home with only a few appliances, a 9kg gas bottle should be enough.

  • For a larger home with more appliances, or if you use gas for cooking, heating and hot water, a 19kg gas bottle will be better.

  • If you have a very big home or use gas for commercial purposes, you'll need an 48kg gas bottle.

When it comes to choosing the right gas bottle size for your needs, it's important to consider both the capacity and the pressure. Gas bottle sizes in South Africa are typically designated by their capacity in liters. However, the pressure of the gas is also an important factor to consider.

For example, a 9kg gas bottle has a capacity of 9 liters but a low-pressure rating of only 0.8 bars. This makes it ideal for small appliances such as heaters and cookers that don't require a lot of pressure. On the other hand, a 14kg gas bottle has a capacity of 13.6 liters but a high-pressure rating of 2.1 bars. This makes it better suited for larger appliances such as stoves and grills that need more pressure to operate properly.
