Their mission is to offer financial assistance, mentorship, and ongoing support to promote their work effectively. By receiving the grant, photographers gain access to a valuable network of previous recipients and a community of individuals who share a deep commitment to the grant's purpose and recognise the significant role of photojournalism.
The origins of the grant trace back over three decades to honour the memory of Ian Parry, a courageous photojournalist who tragically lost his life at the age of 24 while on assignment for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989.
Annually, they conduct an inclusive and globally accessible open call, inviting submissions from aspiring photographers worldwide. Through the IPPG, we aim to highlight and recognise emerging talents in the field of photojournalism, showcasing their unique perspectives and powerful storytelling abilities.

Tom Stoddart Award for Excellence: The judges hold the discretion to award the honorary Tom Stoddart Award for Excellence annually. This prestigious accolade recognises exceptional talent and serves as a testament to the recipient's outstanding achievements.
LEGACY OF WAR Assignment: Recipients may also have the opportunity to undertake an assignment from LEGACY OF WAR, further broadening their professional experiences and contributing to their portfolio.

How to Apply
To be considered for the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant, applicants must ensure that their submission includes the following essential information:
Personal Details: Provide your full name, date of birth, permanent address, personal email address, and personal telephone number. If applicable, include details of your college, course title, and course tutor.
Portfolio Submission: Prepare a portfolio consisting of 12 photographs, either presented as a cohesive photo essay or as individual photos that showcase your skills and photographic storytelling abilities.
Project Description: Include a comprehensive project description that provides detailed information about the portfolio you have uploaded for this application. Explain the themes, subjects, and narratives depicted in your work, offering insights into your creative process and approach. This description should be accompanied by 12 extended captions that provide context and additional information for each image.
Project Proposal: Clearly outline the project you intend to undertake if you are awarded the scholarship. Describe the subject matter, objectives, and significance of the project, emphasising how it aligns with the principles of photojournalism and contributes to the field.
