Spiritual Talk Ep. 22: The Power of Faith: Activating the Miraculous

Faith has long been regarded as a cornerstone of spiritual life, but what makes it such a powerful force? In the latest episode of Spiritual Talk, Pieter Conradie sat down with Pastor Ruaan Viljoen to explore how faith not only plays a role in miracles but actually activates them. Their discussion focused on the practical applications of faith, biblical examples, and how believers today can cultivate an unwavering trust in God.

Faith as the Key to Miracles

Faith is often viewed as a belief in the unseen, yet scripture presents it as much more. It is not merely an abstract concept but an active conviction that aligns one's heart and mind with God’s promises. Matthew 9:29 states, "Then He touched their eyes, saying, ‘Let it be done for you according to your faith!’" This verse highlights the intimate connection between faith and the fulfillment of God’s power in our lives.

Throughout the Bible, faith is depicted as the driving force behind miraculous events. In Mark 5:34, Jesus tells a woman who had been suffering for years, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering." Her healing was not the result of a formal prayer or ritual but stemmed from her unwavering belief that Jesus could restore her health. This moment illustrates that faith is not passive—it requires action and conviction.

Faith in Action: More Than Just Words

One of the key takeaways from the discussion was that faith must be lived out practically. Many believers struggle with the concept of faith because it is often associated with hope rather than certainty. However, as Pastor Ruaan explained, faith is a deep-seated conviction that God will fulfill His promises.

Faith is about harmony between what one believes, speaks, and does. Often, there is a disconnect between a believer’s words and their true conviction. Many pray for healing, breakthroughs, or provision but internally struggle with doubt. According to scripture, faith is most effective when it is in alignment—when mind, heart, and words all reflect a resolute trust in God’s power.

A fascinating insight from the conversation was the etymology of the word "according," as found in Matthew 9:29. The term means to bring into agreement or harmony. In other words, faith operates when one’s belief is in full agreement with their actions. When faith is merely spoken but not acted upon, its effectiveness diminishes. Faith must be lived out through bold steps of trust.

Breaking the Boundaries of Passive Faith

Many individuals experience faith as a passive belief system—hoping that something will happen rather than stepping into action. Passive faith waits for signs, while active faith moves forward as though the promise has already been received. The difference is striking: passive faith prays for rain, while active faith prepares the fields for the downpour.

Peter’s story of walking on water (Matthew 14:29) serves as a prime example. He stepped out of the boat upon hearing Jesus’ call, demonstrating his belief in Christ’s power. However, when he allowed fear and doubt to cloud his mind, he began to sink. This passage highlights the importance of maintaining unwavering faith despite external circumstances.

Faith Beyond Logic: Trusting When It Doesn’t Make Sense

A significant challenge for many believers is the tendency to rely on logic and senses rather than faith. Pastor Ruaan pointed out that faith often requires moving beyond what seems reasonable. The woman who touched Jesus’ garment had no logical reason to believe that this action alone would heal her—yet she did so with complete conviction and received her miracle.

Similarly, David’s battle against Goliath was not won through conventional warfare tactics but through faith in God’s strength. He trusted not in his own abilities but in the power of the Almighty. This type of faith defies human reasoning and relies entirely on divine intervention.

How to Build a Stronger Faith

Faith is not something one either has or lacks—it is something that can be cultivated. Here are a few ways believers can strengthen their faith:

  1. Meditate on God’s Word – Scripture is filled with promises that reinforce faith. By regularly reading and internalizing these truths, believers build a foundation of trust in God’s power.

  2. Pray with Expectation – Rather than praying out of obligation, pray with the confidence that God hears and answers.

  3. Take Action – Step out in faith, even when the outcome is uncertain. Whether it’s starting a new endeavor, believing for healing, or trusting God for provision, faith requires movement.

  4. Surround Yourself with Faith-Filled People – Community plays a crucial role in strengthening faith. Engage with those who challenge and encourage spiritual growth.

  5. Recall Past Victories – Reflecting on previous experiences of God’s faithfulness helps reinforce belief in His continued guidance.

Final Thoughts

Faith is the catalyst that activates miracles. It is more than a feeling or a vague hope—it is a firm conviction that moves mountains. As believers grow in faith, they align their hearts and actions with God’s promises, paving the way for supernatural breakthroughs.
