In this week’s deeply reflective and spiritually nourishing episode of Spiritual Talk, Pieter Conradie engages in an eye-opening conversation with guest Bennie Jonker, exploring the profound calling for believers to become living sacrifices. This dialogue is not merely theological, it’s a practical journey into the heart of divine identity, purpose, and personal transformation.

What Does It Mean to Be a Living Sacrifice?
The conversation opens with a powerful question: What do we do after the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ? The answer: we live, not just in the physical sense, but as a spiritual embodiment of Christ's resurrection power. Pieter shares the insight that while Jesus came as a dying sacrifice, believers are now called to live as living sacrifices, actively walking out the purpose of the Kingdom in everyday life.
The Divine Life Within
Bennie expands on this with references to Romans 6 and the spiritual reality that believers are crucified, buried, raised, and seated with Christ. But what does that mean practically? Too often, people get lost in the routine of survival, living from paycheck to paycheck, moment to moment, forgetting their divine essence.
He challenges listeners to rethink their identity: “You are not a body with a spirit, you are a spirit with a body.” By returning to the origin of who we are, we begin to live out our true design, reflecting the fullness of Christ through every thought, word, and deed.
Spirit, Soul, and Body: A Threefold Journey
The discussion then dives into a structured framework for spiritual growth:
Spirit – God gave us His Spirit. We are called to walk in the Spirit and grow through reflection, meditation, and awareness of our divine position.
Soul – Our thoughts, emotions, and will must be renewed daily (Romans 12). As Bennie notes, your brain creates new pathways every day, but if left unused, they fade.
Body – Through practices like fasting and prayer, the body becomes aligned with the spirit. Fasting isn’t just for breakthroughs; it’s a divine discipline that unlocks spiritual clarity and physical healing.

A Drop in the Ocean
Bennie uses a powerful metaphor: If God is the ocean, we are a drop in that ocean, part of His character, His power, His peace. But if we don’t live out that essence, how can others recognize that we belong to Him?
It’s not about outward success, appearance, or achievements. It’s about the inner wellspring of life, streams of living water that flow from within.
Awakening to the Truth
Much of the episode emphasizes the importance of personal introspection. Many believers know what Scripture says but never activate it in their lives. They wait for others, pastors, mentors, influencers, to show them how to walk it out.
But Pieter and Bennie remind us: “If the Word says it’s possible, why wait for someone else to prove it to you?” We must each do the hard work of rediscovery, not just living by moral codes, but stepping into the transformational identity that God designed for us.
Final Takeaway: The True Meaning of Sacrifice
Living as a holy and living sacrifice isn’t about religious performance. It’s about surrendering who you think you are, so you can become who you were truly meant to be.
It’s a return to your origin, to the image and likeness of God. In that surrender, the body aligns with the soul, and the soul aligns with the spirit. And in that divine harmony, your true light begins to shine in a world that desperately needs it.
